How much does it cost to replace an electrical panel in Québec?
With us: $2,495 for an indoor 200 A panel, $3,495 for a full 200 A service, materials, Hydro-Québec and inspection included, before taxes.
These are “from” prices for a standard overhead service. Your exact price is set in writing from three photos, before the work.
Our prices for a 200 A panel or service
If your mast and meter base can already take 200 A, only the panel changes. Otherwise you need the full service. We tell you which applies from the photo of your meter.
| Job | What’s included | From | With taxes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indoor 200 A panel | Panel and breakers, circuits reconnected, grounding, Hydro-Québec, inspection | $2,495 | $2,869 |
| Full 200 A service | Everything in the panel job, plus mast, meter base and service conductors | $3,495 | $4,018 |
| Full 200 A service + EV charger | Full service and an installed Level 2 charger, same visit | $4,795 | $5,513 |
What changes the price
The price goes up for an underground service, moving the panel, drywall repair, or aluminium or knob-and-tube wiring. We price all of that in writing before we start.
- An underground rather than overhead service
- A panel that has to move (finished basement, new location required)
- Drywall repair around the panel
- Aluminium or knob-and-tube wiring to fix
- Hydro-Québec work on its own network: billed directly by Hydro-Québec
100 A, 125 A or 200 A: do you need it?
A 100 A service is often enough for an electrically heated house with no other big loads. Add an electric car and a heat pump, and capacity gets tight at peak times. Sometimes a load controller is enough; otherwise you need 200 A.
To see what you have, look at the main breaker at the top of the panel: the number on it (100, 125, 200) is the capacity.
We work out the load from your photos and tell you honestly whether the upgrade is needed.
Why prices online vary so much
Most cost guides online come from Ontario or the US. In Québec, the work has to be declared and inspected, and Hydro-Québec has to disconnect and reconnect the service. A price that leaves those steps out isn’t comparable to ours, which includes them.
Common questions.
My insurer won’t accept my fuse panel. What do I do?
Many insurers ask for fuse panels or certain old brands to be replaced. We replace the panel and give you the documents your insurer needs.
How long does the work take?
Usually one day on site. The date depends on the disconnection and reconnection appointment Hydro-Québec sets; we confirm it to you in writing.
Will the power be off?
Yes, during the work, usually for one day. We test every circuit before we leave.
Do I need a permit?
The work is declared and inspected, and Hydro-Québec has to disconnect and reconnect the service. We handle both; it’s included in the price.
Is a panel replacement subsidized?
Not directly. The Écorecharge and LogisVert programs pay for the charger, heat pump or solar, not the electrical service.
